Skoda Drops Teaser Sketches and Images of the 2013 Rapid Sedan

After our revealing spy shots of the European market 2013 Skoda Rapid, there's really not much left to show about the Czech automaker's entry in the compact sedan category.

However, if you're still wondering what the front and rear ends of the car will look like without the craftily positioned decals on the lights, here are some official design sketches and cropped images of the final production model.

First seen in showcar trim as the Mission L concept at last year's Frankfurt Motor Show, the production Rapid will make its first public appearance in Paris this September and hit dealerships across Europe before the end of the year.

Despite its saloon appearance, the rear window lifts together with the boot revealing a capacious 500 liters of space.

New Skoda Super Combi Outdoor is All Show, No Go

The crossover-ish station wagon craze over at the Volkswagen Group continues with the presentation of the new Skoda Superb Combi Outdoor.

However, unlike the VW Passat Alltrack, the Audi A4 and A6 Allroad and even Skoda's own Octavia Scout, the Superb Combi Outdoor is only about the looks, as it doesn't get a higher ride or a modified suspension nor any protective underbody plates.

BT Design's ETAPE Concept Converts Skoda Yeti Into a Sporty Pickup Truck

Making its world premiere at this week's 2012 Auto Mobil International Show (AMI) in Leipzig, Germany, is a new concept model for a small Skoda pickup truck from BT Design, a subsidiary of Benet Automotive (BA), a Czech company that works closely with Skoda Auto.

The ETAPE Concept is based on the production Skoda Yeti, itself a compact crossover model. The Czech company says that the only part of the car that remained unchanged is the bonnet.

Skoda Launches New Motorsport Themed Bicycle Lineup for 2012

Skoda may not be German, but it is owned and run by Germans, and as any other mainstream brand that belongs to the Volkswagen Group, it too offers a bicycle lineup.

The Czech automaker's new bicycle range for 2012 comprises seven models for a different range of uses and age groups, all of which are themed after the ŠKODA Motorsport team and are finished in green and white.

Scoop: First Interior Photos of New Skoda Rapid

Last Tuesday we brought you spy shots of a virtually undisguised Skoda Rapid prototype showing us what the compact sedan will look like on the outside.

Today, we can share the first scoop inside the new Rapid as our man with the long lens not only caught up with another test car, this time finished in red, but he was also able to come close enough to snag the interior.

Spied: All-New Skoda Rapid Compact Sedan Caught Undisguised

Czech carmaker Skoda is more or less done hiding its Rapid sedan prototypes, one of which was snagged by our scoop photographers while running around the Nürburgring racetrack in Germany.

Skoda's engineers simply applied some convincing, but fake, decals on the tail lamps, the top part of the headlamps, and the rear door lines, just to keep our spies on their toes.

Other than that, what you see in these pictures is what European buyers will get when the compact sedan model makes its first public outing at the Paris Motor Show this September before reaching dealerships at the end of the year.

The European market Rapid (Skoda also sells a smaller and unrelated Rapid sedan in India) is the production variant of the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show Mission L Concept.

Did This Man Really Light up a Match to Look into the Gas Tank?

We cannot say for sure that the driver of this Skoda Octavia lit up a match to see if his tank was full while filling up at a gas station, as claimed by the poster of the video, though admittedly, at around 30 seconds into the clip, we see him reaching into his pocket and then doing something near the fuel cap.

Whatever he did, his actions sparked a very dangerous fire. And just to make a bad situation worse, out came the gas station employee, who only by sheer luck put out the flames... Watch the video after the break and you will see what we mean.

Cars and Girls from the 2012 Wörthersee GTI Tour [125 Photos]

It is by far the biggest gathering of Volkswagen Group fans in the world and it takes place every year at Lake Wörthersee in Austria, which lends its name to the event.

The 31st Wörthersee GTI fest kicked off on Wednesday, May 16, and will continue to entertain Volkswagen as well as Audi, Seat and Skoda owners and enthusiasts in more ways than one (as you will soon see in the pictures below…) for another two days until Saturday, May 19.

Skoda's New Citigo Rally Car Concept in the Flesh from Wörthersee

Czech carmaker Skoda secured an exhibition area of more than 600 square meters at the world's largest gathering of Volkswagen Group enthusiasts at Lake Wörthersee in Austria to display a number of its models.

Following the impressive Fabia RS Convertible Rally Car Concept at last year's Wörthersee festival, Skoda once again opted for a race-inspired study to spearhead its presentation.

Skoda to Debut Citigo Rally and DJ Concepts at the 2012 Wörthersee Tour

This week's 2012 Wörthersee Tour will see Skoda revealing two new concept cars of its Citigo mini, which is based on the Volkswagen Up!.

For the time being, we only get a single sketch of Skoda's study for a Citigo Rally car that will boast a widened body with flared wheel arches housing 18-inch alloy wheels, a roof scoop and a large rear wing along with a race-spec interior featuring a protective roll cage.

Skoda MissionL to be Named Rapid in Europe, will go on Sale Before the End of the Year

The production version of the Skoda MissionL sedan will be called the Rapid in Europe, the Czech automaker revealed today at the 2012 Beijing Motor Show where it is displaying a lightly modified version of the concept model for the Chinese market.

Even though they share the same name, the compact-sized notchback is a different model from the smaller India-market Rapid sedan that is based on the VW Polo saloon.

New Skoda Mission L Rendered as a Modern Day Replacement for the Rapid Coupe

If you exclude Skoda's conceptual Tudor from 2002 that was based on the first generation of the Superb, itself a rebadged Passat B5 with a longer wheelbase, the last time the Czech automaker had a coupe model in its range was in 1990 with the poorly built and designed Rapid.

The 1980s Rapid (not to be confused with Skoda's newer small sedan) was often called "the poor man's Porsche" because of its rear-engine, rear-wheel drive layout, though that's where the similarities ended.

The presentation of the almost production ready Mission L Concept sedan at last year's Frankfurt Motor Show sparked rumors about the development of more body styles. These were further fueled by remarks from Skoda board member Eckhard Scholz who said the company is indeed thinking about expanding the range of the series that has not yet been named.

Skoda Announces UK Prices for New Citigo Mini, Starts at £7,630

The Czech sibling of the Volkswagen Up! city car, the Skoda Citigo, will go on sale across Britain on 1 June, 2012, with prices starting from £7,630 for three door and £7,980 for five door model.

Both bodystyles measure 3,563mm long and offer a boot capacity of 251 litres, which rises to 951 litres when the rear seats are folded down in the three-door model and 959 litres in the five-door version.

Czech Coast Customs: Xzibit Does a Pimp My Ride Commercial for Skoda Yeti

The original Pimp My Ride television show hosted by Xzibit, née Alvin Nathaniel Joiner, remains one of MTV's most popular programs not only in the States, but worldwide as well, which is probably why a non-American brand like the VW Group's Skoda division decided to create a commercial that spoofs the series.

The spot stars Xzibit and his crew who work in a tuning shop under the name of "Czech Coast Customs" (instead of West Coast Customs, if you're not familiar with the TV show) with the advertised car in question being the Skoda Yeti crossover.

Skoda Launches New Limited Edition Yeti Urban in Britain

More often than not, special edition models come with a price hike, but that's not the case with Skoda's new Yeti Urban that features up to £2,450 worth of extra equipment at no extra cost over the SE trim it is based on.

Production of the new model is limited to 750 units exclusively for the UK with sales to start in April.

The Yeti Urban rides on 17-inch black-and-chrome 'Matterhorn' alloys and sports wheel arch extensions, chrome side strips, silver door mirror caps, silver roof rails and roof stripes. Buyers can choose from four different exterior colors at no extra charge including Black Magic pearl effect, Candy White, Brilliant Silver metallic and Steel Grey metallic.

VW May Start Selling MQB Platform to Other Carmakers after 2015

When you spend four years more than €60 billion (US$80 billion) in developing a groundbreaking new platform, then you better make sure that your investment will pay off for itself big time.

This is what the VW Group has done for its brand-new MQB platform, which is so flexible in terms of wheelbase, track width and seating positions that it will underpin a variety of different-sized models ranging from the Polo to the Passat – and everything else in between.

At the group’s profits announcement, it was revealed that in 2011, the number one European manufacturer increased its profits by more than 50 percent compared to 2010, to €11.3 billion (US$15 billion).

Spy Shots: New Skoda Mission L Compact Sedan Shapes up for Production

There's a new Skoda coming to town and these are some of the first spy photos of the soon to be revealed compact sedan, which will be based on the Mission L Concept study exhibited at last year's Frankfurt Motor Show.

There has been some confusing concerning the production version of the Mission L (we still don't know what Skoda will name it) and the Czech automaker's Rapid small sedan that was recently launched in India.

It is to our understanding that while they are probably related, at the same time, they are different models, with the Rapid being a rebadged VW Polo sedan.

For one, whereas the Rapid has a third side window housed separately in the C-column, both the concept and the prototype Mission L incorporate the triangular pane on the rear door.
