Sachin Tendulkar Oath Taking Ceremony in Rajya Sabha

Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar who took oath as Rajya Sabha member in the Parliament on Monday (June 4th). Sachin, starting a new innings of his life today as he has been sworn in as a nominated member of the Rajya Sabha. Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar has taken oath as a member of the Rajya Sabha in the chamber of Chairman Dr. Hamid Ansari. Sporting a white shirt, Mr Tendulkar took the oath in Hindi. Tendulkar was accompanied by his wife Anjali and Congress leader Mr Rajiv Shukla.

39 yeras old Tendulkar is the first active sportsperson and cricketer to have beennominated to the Rajya Sabha under the Prominent Citizens Quota & when he took oath as a Rajya Sabha member he has became the first active sportsperson to become a Member of Parliament.

After taking oath, Sachin said he would want to contribute to not just cricket, but all the sports in India..

“I need help from my fellow MPs. I would be happy being remembered as an MP who did something for the development of all sports and not just cricket,” Sachin said.

Sachin also said that he will continue to play cricket.

“This is a great honour to be nominated as RS member by the President of India. I am here because of my cricketing career, I won’t leave playing cricket. I will continue to play cricket, I do not know when I will retire from cricket,” he said.

Viswanathan Anand congratulated Sachin said that Sachin serving as Rajya Sabha member would be a big step in his life and wished the cricket legend to enjoy his new role.

”I hope he (Tendulkar) enjoys his role and he is able to do it very well. It’s a big step for him and I think he will enjoy it,” Anand said.

Indian Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni congratulated Sachin said that Sachin will make a contribution as a Rajya Sabha member also as he has excelled in cricket and in whatever he has done so far.

”This (Rajya Sabha) is a new avenue for him and I am sure he will do well and contribute there also,” Dhoni said.

Anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare congratulated Sachin and appealed to him to raise voice against corruption.

“We welcome and congratulate him. Sachin should raise his voice against corruption and also against those who are not in favour of Lokpal. We will keep supporting him outside,” Anna said.

Tendulkar has been honoured with the Padma Vibhushan award, India’s second highest civilian award, and the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award, India’s highest sporting honour.
