Kahaani Review
Kahaani goes to prove that Vidya Balan is a deserving actor and her National Award forThe Dirty Picture is truly justified. In an era where heroines are considered arm candy of the hero who come and go just to shake legs in songs, Vidya has carried the movie on her shoulders and has struck the right chord with the audience. This lady truly mesmerizes you with her acting skills.
The film is told in a captivating manner that raises the expectations of the audience. It is definitely a suspense thriller. A search to find her lost husband is the crux of the story. Vidya Venkatesan Bagchi (Vidya Balan) arrives in Kolkata fully pregnant. Vidya has played the role of a Tamil girl married to a Bengali who goes missing in Kolkata. Vidya arrives from London to look out for her husband Arnab Bagchi only to find that no such person ever existed.
Just like how Vidya impress so does the portrayal of Kolkata stays in our memories. It is a mystery that takes you down the lanes of Kolkata and Setu has done a great job with the camera. Sujoy Ghosh should be applauded not just for his intricate screenplay but also his expertise in choosing the cast. Whether it is Satyoki aka Rana (Parambrata Chattopadhyay) as a gentle cop or Khan (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) as a tough Intelligence Bureau wizard there is no undermining the efforts of the director including the selection of child artists. Ghosh has taken all efforts to portray Kolkata in the right light.
The music by Vishal-Shekhar is enjoyable.
Editing by Namrata Rao has made the film engrossing.
Moving in the right pace Kahaani definitely has a story to tell.
