New Volvo S60 Polestar Performance Concept Packs 508-Horses, Eyes BMW M3

The highly anticipated Volvo S60 Polestar performance concept made its world premiere on Saturday on the sidelines of the Gothenburg City Race in Sweden.

The first thing you will need to know about the performance version of the S60 is that it is a one off model developed by Volvo Cars Official Motorsports and its racing and tuning partner Polestar for an as of yet unnamed client.

However, there's a ray of light for those that are gawking at this concept as the two brands stated that "a small series of Polestar modified S60s may be built pending market response". So in other words, if you like it, let the company know it. You can start by our comments section...

Now, to the juicier details of the S60 Polestar starting with the powertrain. While some sources believed that it may use the XC90's Yamaha-built V8, Polestar based the car on the S60 T6.

The regular model is motivated by a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six delivering 300hp (304PS) to all-four wheels for a zero to 100km/h (62mph) sprint time of 6.1 seconds and a top speed of 250km/h (155mph).

Volvo S60 Polestar is a One-Off Concept for a Client, but Could Enter Regular Production

We just received some more news on the S60 Polestar, a high-performance version of Volvo's compact executive saloon that was teased through a hazy image earlier today.

As it turns out, the Volvo S60 Polestar is a street-legal, performance concept inspired by the racing model that competes in the 2012 season of the new Swedish racing series TTA – Racing Elite League.

SCOOP: New Volvo XC40 Crossover Caught Disguised and…Undisguised

At the same time our spy shooters were snagging pictures of Volvo's engineers testing a camouflaged prototype of the upcoming crossover version of the V40, a member of the Dutch Volvo Forum hit the jackpot by spotting the production model completely undisguised during a photo shoot.

The compact crossover will likely be named the XC40 with its presentation possibly taking place as early as this fall at the 2012 Paris Motor Show.

Judging by these photos, the XC40 is to the V40 what the XC70 is to the V70. In other words, a soft off-roader version of the V40 with a slightly tougher look that benefits from a raised ride height, an assortment of robust plastic cladding, prominent roof rails and perhaps either standard or optional all-wheel-drive system.

Artist Visualizes Volvo S60R High-Performance Sport Sedan

True, Volvo has made significant efforts to renew its image and lower the age of its average buyers over the years, but for some reason, the Swedish automaker has stayed away from the performance wars in the premium segment.

However, a recent crop of spy shots from Sweden showing a modified S60 prototype in disguise have sparked rumors about the development of a sports version of the compact executive sedan that could compete with the BMW M3.

Spy Shots: Is Volvo Preparing a 400hp S60 R to Rival the BMW M3?

A reader of Swedish car magazine, Teknikens Värld, nabbed these spy photos of a beefed up S60 while undergoing tests in Scandinavia.

Despite the fact that the car is registered as a T6 AWD with 304 horsepower, the team over at Teknikens Värld claims to have information that there is more than meets the eye to this prototype claiming that it is likely an R model being prepared in cooperation with Volvo's racing partner, Polestar.

Volvo Shows us How the New V40 Hatchback's Innovative Pedestrian Air-Bag Works

Among all the safety features introduced on the V40 compact hatchback, which as you may have already heard, will not be coming to North America, the most impressive is the ground-breaking pedestrian airbag that will be fitted as standard to all specifications.

Developed as part of the Swedish automaker's somewhat unrealistic goal that "no-one should be killed or injured in a new Volvo by 2020", the V40's pedestrian air-bag promises to significantly reduce the risks of head injuries.

Peter Horbury Talks About the Future of Chinese Auto Design

Unlike other powerhouses in the auto industry from Germany, Japan and the U.S., Chinese carmakers are still trying to find their way when it comes to design, with a sizable portion of domestic brands simply copying styling elements or even vehicles in whole from Western brands.

There are of course plenty of other vehicle manufacturers from China that are experimenting with designs in a bid to develop their own individual and distinct styles with mixed results.

One designer who is not only closely observing what is going on in China but is also participating in the process of defining the indigenous auto design is Peter Horbury, who last year moved to China to take over the role of senior vice president of design at Geely, Volvo’s corporate sibling under the Zhejiang Geely Holding Group.

Volvo XC90 "Delightfully Refreshed" for 2013 Model Year, Prices Start from $39,500*

Another new model year, another string of tweaks for Volvo's XC90 SUV that has entered its tenth year in production with no replacement in sight.

For the 2013 model year, Volvo claims that the mid-size SUV has been "delightfully refreshed" (their words, not ours), and that the result is "the most significantly updated XC90 since its launch a decade ago".

Apparently, someone at Volvo forgot about the 2006 facelift that brought several visual and mechanical upgrades including a redesigned snout and the introduction of a then new straight-six engine.

Volvo Cars Celebrates 85th Birthday with the Same Car in the Same Place

On April 14, 1927, at 10 am, Volvo sales manager Hilmer Johansson was photographed while he was driving the Swedish company's first mass-produced automobile, the ÖV4, through the factory gates in Lundby in Göteborg.

To celebrate the 85th anniversary of this event, Stefan Jacoby, President and CEO of Volvo Car Corporation, and Olof Persson, President and CEO of the Volvo Group, which sold the company's automotive business to Ford in 1999 before it landed in the hands of China's Geely in 2009, were photographed passing through the same gates in the same historic model.

Volvo Shows More of its Pure-Electric C30 E Hatch

The all-new V40 may be hogging the spotlight these days, but there's another equally important model for Volvo's future, one which the company continues to develop. That's the C30 E, an all-electric version of the three-door hatchback that's currently offered for lease to select buyers across Europe.

To keep interest in the car (and the project) alive, Volvo has published another video of the C30 E undergoing further development in the northern regions of Finland. You can watch it right after the break.

Sweden's Coolest Volvo, a 788-horsepower 1969 Amazon Kombi is up for Sale

Our regular readers will no doubt remember the highly customized 1969 Volvo Amazon Kombi that made a splash at the 2006 SEMA show in Las Vegas while it surprised us even further when it embarrassed a few Ferraris.

The car is the creation of Mattias Vöcks, an enlightened petrol head from Sweden who also happens to work for Koenigsegg.

The stylish Amazon Kombi started its life as a regular model but Vöcks swiftly turned it into a beast or as he calls it, "Sweden's Coolest Volvo".

It is powered by a heavily modified 2.8-liter turbocharged inline-six sourced from Volvo. Back in 2006, it produced 592hp (600PS), but further development from Vöcks pushed output to 788hp (799PS) and peak torque to 980Nm (723 lb-ft) when running on E85.

Volvo CEO Criticizes EU’s Strategy on CO2 Emissions Reduction and Electric Cars

Stephan Jacoby, President and CEO of Volvo Cars, said today at an industry seminar in Brussels that the European Commission’s plan of reducing CO2 emissions and promoting electrification throughout Europe is mistaken.

Jacoby believes that a lack of a cohesive incentive strategy and over-optimistic targets set by the EU will not have the desired effects. He said that the high cost of hybrid and all-electric vehicles is currently preventing European car buyers from adopting them.

“Volvo Car Corporation urges the EU to coordinate incentives while supporting research and development”, said Jacoby, adding that if this does not happen, European carmakers will have to deal with the consequences.

Volvo Recalling Close to 3,000 S60 and XC60 Models Over Undercoatings that Pose a Fire Risk

If you happen to own a 2012 Volvo S60 sedan and/or a XC60 crossover in the States, there's a good chance you'll soon receive a recall letter from the Swedish automaker because of a potential fire risk.

"An incorrect mixture of underbody coating and over-application can result in rigid, icicle-like areas hanging from vehicle’s undercarriage," read Volvo's document posted on the website of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Fiat Open to Talks with Volvo for a Possible Partnership

With the European market in a recession, Fiat is actively looking to form some kind of cost-saving alliance with another manufacturer.

the most far out cool and ridiculous stuff I came across at SEMA

Hi Patrol 4x4'ers!  This is just one of 8700 galleries of things I've posted, I hope you'll check out some of the rest. I recommend the humorous stuff most, http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/search/label/humor but I have about 1000 catagories and you might be more interested in something else specific.

Far out ridiculous rims... no self respecting Charger or Dukes fan is going to buy these Forgiato rims that badly mimic the Tornado rims
Most ridiculous vehicle to use low profiles, and thousands of dollars of airbrushing.

Most ridiculous place to put a gold club bag

I doubt the below is true. Too coincidental, and I stopped believing everything I was told many years ago, especially when it comes to advertising. I can believe it rolled down a 300 foot dune, but I doubt there was anyone in it, especially just a day before it needed to be the prize winnign advertisement for this safety roll cage

Wow this would be a lot of fun
