2013 SRT Viper GTS-R gets its First Track Time

We first laid eyes on both the road-going and racing versions of the all-new SRT Viper GTS during their world premiere at the 2012 New York Auto Show in April.

Now we learn that SRT Motorsports recently completed the first on-track test of the 2013 SRT Viper GTS-R racer with team driver Marc Goossens at the Carolina Motorsports Park in preparation for its entry in the American Le Mans Series GT class later this year.

Ralph Gilles Shows Off 2013 SRT Viper GTS at Moparpalooza

As the Chrysler Group's halo car, the Detroit carmaker does not pass on the opportunity to display the new 2013 SRT Viper to the brand's fans.

The most recent sighting of the snake was at the 2013 Moparpalooza fest, which took place on May 20 at the Fair Oaks Motors dealership in Chantilly, Virginia.

The SRT brands boss Ralph Gilles was on hand to talk with Mopar enthusiasts and detail the new Viper sports coupe.

2013 SRT Viper Makes Virtual Debut in Forza Motorsport 4 Trailer, Download Pack on its Way

Shortly after the Chrysler Group put the spotlight on the all-new 2013 SRT Viper at the New York Auto Show, Turn 10 Studios announced that the Detroit automaker's halo sports car would be coming to Forza Motorsport 4 this summer through a downloadable package.

"This downloadable content will include both a drivable version of the SRT Viper as well as a Viper Autovista experience which, in true Autovista fashion, is designed to give you a stunning view of this incredible machine, as well as insight into its history and production," Turn 10 Studios said in a posting on the official Forza Motorsport 4 website.

2013 SRT Viper GTS Loses Part of its Top and Gains a Limey Green Shade in New Rendering

So what if it's only been a day or so since the Chrysler Group dropped the curtains on the 2013 SRT Viper; we already have a speculative take on the slithery sports car, courtesy of Dan Buzdugan from PS-Garage, who dropped this image into our email box.

Calling it a roadster is probably a bit of a stretch as the only part of the roof that has been removed is the center section above the heads of the passengers. In this case, Targa would be a more appropriate name.

SRT Viper GTS-R is the Chrysler Group's New 2012 ALMS Racer

The 2013 SRT Viper and Viper GTS are sure to wow the crowds at this year's New York Auto Show, but they won’t be alone as the street-legal versions are joined at Chrysler’s stand by the GTS-R racing model.

Almost all race fans know that the previous generation Vipers have a long history on the tracks, which begun back in 1996 with the original GTS-R that won the 1997-1999 FIA GT championships along with five international GT titles and was the first-ever production-based American car to win the 24 Hours of Daytona in 2000.

Snake Bite: 2013 SRT Viper Finally Breaks Cover in New York [82 Photos and Videos]

Probably the most teased, and awaited, car of this year’s New York Auto Show has been officially unveiled. The 2013 SRT Viper, as it will be known from now on, was launched earlier today at the Big Apple in two flavors: “plain vanilla” Viper and Viper GTS.

After production stopped in 2010, there were reports that the Viper would not be resurrected, which the group later dismissed. Nevertheless, for a while its future was shaky, a fact acknowledged by the company’s executives.

“Beyond being the flagship for the new SRT brand, the launch of the 2013 Viper proves that we simply would not let the performance icon of the Chrysler Group die”, said SRT boss Ralph Gilles.

“Willed to live on by a very special group of performance enthusiasts inside the company and across Viper Nation, this SRT team under our new leadership was challenged to not just continue the legendary Viper, but to create a world-class supercar that would showcase the very best we have to offer.”

20 Years of the Viper in Less than 8 Minutes

It’s hard to believe, but it's been 20 years since the Chrysler Group rolled out the first Dodge Viper sports car back in 1992.

Two generations later, we're waiting for the Detroit automaker to turn the next page in the model's history with the presentation of the all-new 2013 Viper that will be rebranded as an SRT model, at the New York Auto Show later today.

To remind us of how the Viper came to be and how it has evolved over the years, the Chrysler Group has released a new video, which you can watch right after the break.

2013 SRT Viper Now Appears in Video Shots

The 2013 SRT Viper will no doubt go down as the most oddly leaked car of the 2012 New York Auto Show. After the renderings and photos of the Hot Wheels model, we now have some screenshots of the next Viper.

An anonymous tipster sent the images to Insideline, which suspects that they are sourced from a video that will be shown during the sport coupe's presentation in New York tomorrow afternoon.

What we see in these shaky, but high-resolution screenshots pretty much matches the car in the previous photos and even SRT's own teaser images.

2013 SRT Viper Teased One Last Time Before its Big Reveal in New York

The wait for the world premiere of the third generation Viper is nearing its end but not before Chrysler's SRT brand teases its flagship sports car for one last time about 48 hours ahead of its world premiere at the 2012 New York Auto Show on Wednesday morning.

After affording us our first look at the interior last Thursday, SRT has now published a darkened image of the new 2013 Viper's front end where we see the sports coupe's sculptured hood with a prominent center air scoop that is flanked by two smaller vents.

SRT Drops First Teaser Photo of the New 2013 Viper's Interior

After SRT failed to get 2013 "likes" in 2013 minutes on its Facebook page to show us the next Viper, the moderators took a different approach asking for 300 "shares" on a new status, a goal that was achieved rather swiftly.

So, here we are with what could be that last teaser before the actual reveal of the brand-new Viper on April 4 at the 2012 New York International Auto Show, unless SRT has more competitions in mind…

What you see is the next Viper's interior with a shot taken from the front and in an angle from the driver's position showing part of the center console, the red sport seats and the manual gearbox shifter.

If you pay close attention to the seat in the picture, you'll see that SRT's people have sneakily added a bar code that takes you to another page to join next week's webcast once you scan it with a smart phone.

While we're waiting for SRT to collect 2013 Facebook likes so we can see one more teaser image of the new Viper, the Chrysler Group brand has informed us about the live page on its DriverSRT website, where it will broadcast the reveal from the New York Auto Show on Wednesday, April 4.

The web page also includes a picture of the new Viper covered in a white sheet that outlines the shape of the sports car.

SRT gets Social Hungry, Promises Another Viper Teaser if You 'Like' its Facebook Post

There's something about Facebook that gives the Chrysler Group's newly formed SRT division a warm, tingly sensation as the automaker insists on teasing its upcoming Viper sports car (leaked Hot Wheels model pictured above) on the world's largest social network.

"Want to sneak another glimpse of the 2013 SRT Viper?" SRT asks in a post on its Facebook page. "Help us gain 2013 new 'likes' in 2013 minutes, and we'll drop a special teaser image. The race is on. Let's go."

In the past 4 hours, the said posting has received 1,161 'likes', meaning its more than half way there and that it will reach its goal in much less than 2,013 minutes or 33.55 hours.
