South Korean Video Alleges Chevrolet Accident Caused by Brake Failure

Here's another automobile accident caught on camera in South Korea that is being blamed on a mechanical failure.

Whereas the two previous (unrelated) incidents from the country involving a BMW and a Hyundai Sonata YF were allegedly linked to a sticky accelerator pedal issue, this one is claimed to have occurred due to brake failure.

Seriously, This Driver Crashed her Car Three Times in Less than 20 Feet…

If this accident doesn't get you to smash your palm into your face, we don't know what will…

In less than a minute, the driver of this silver Daewoo - from what we can tell, somewhere in South Korea, managed to crash her small sedan not once, not twice but three times in a parking lot entry!

Sound impossible, but it is true and there's footage from a closed circuit television camera to prove it.

72mph Hyundai Sonata Sudden Acceleration Accident Hits the Mainstream Media

Last Wednesday, we shared with you a video of an accident that took place in South Korea a couple of days earlier and which concerned a latest generation 2009 Hyundai Sonata YF sedan that allegedly took off by itself due to a sticky accelerator pedal plowing into another car at high speed.

The story has since been picked up by mainstream media in Korea and across the world, including CNN, ABC and even the Wall Street Journal.

In Korea, the video of the accident sparked a government-led investigation whilst Hyundai itself, while refusing interviews to talk about the incident issued a brief statement saying, "The vehicle is being investigated by the Korean National Forensic Service. There is no time estimate for the conclusion of the investigation."

Terrifying Crash in South Korea Splits Hyundai Sonata in Two

A fatal accident that occurred in South Korea was captured on film by a car's onboard camera.

From what we can tell, the driver of an older generation Hyundai Sonata either crashed or lost control of the vehicle and passed onto the opposite side of the freeway where he collided first with a Kia Sportage crossover and then into a minivan at high speed.

The collision was so severe that the Hyundai broke in two. According to a translation provided by YouTube users, the front passenger of the Sonata died immediately while the driver and the two rear passengers made it out alive but injured.

Another Alleged Sudden Acceleration Incident from South Korea, this Time Featuring a BMW

After an alleged sudden unintended acceleration crash involving a latest generation Hyundai Sonata YF in South Korea spread like wildfire across the news, the local media discovered a supposedly similar incident concerning a BMW model.

And like the Hyundai accident, the terrifying BMW crash was also filmed from a dashboard mounted camera.

The video shows the car gaining up speed with the driver swerving through traffic on the highway to avoid crashing for about 20 seconds but in the end, he smashes into another vehicle that had slowed down due to traffic. This event took place in South Korea on November 5, 2011.

Alleged Hyundai Sonata YF Sudden Acceleration Crash at 117km/h Captured on Video

No doubt, you have all heard about the sudden acceleration problems that plagued the Toyota Group, mainly in North America, for a couple of years. Now, a driver is putting the blame of a car crash that occurred this past Sunday, May 6, 2012, in the South Korean city of Daegu, on a sticky accelerator. The said car is the latest generation Hyundai Sonata YF sedan.

What makes this incident of particular interest is that it was captured on film by a dashboard mounted camera in the Sonata, which is something we don't remember seeing before in crashes relating or alleged to be related to sticky accelerator pedals.

The 30-second long clip shows the Korean sedan stopped at a light with a previous generation Hyundai standing in front when the Sonata appears to accelerate. At this point, we hear a conversation from the driver and passengers as well as a sound that may or may not be from the handbrake being lifted.

Good Times: U.S. Army Humvee Street Races a Korean Army Kia Retona

In all fairness, we are not sure if we should call any duel between a U.S. army Humvee and a Republic of Korea (ROK) Army Kia Retona, a small 4x4 based on the Kia Sportage from the late 1990s, a street race, but if anything else, these guys seem to be enjoying themselves.

Watch the amusingly slow street race between the two armed forces in the video that follows after the break.

Back to the Future: Kia Elan Roadster is a Lotus for the Masses

Back in the late 1980s, two automakers with very different values and historical backgrounds each set out to build a roadster model for mainstream enthusiasts. The two brands were Mazda with its MX-5, also known as Miata in North America and Eunos Roadster in Japan, and Lotus, then owned by General Motors, with the Elan M100.

Both two-seater models were presented in 1989, but only one managed to become a phenomenal sales success, and that was the MX-5.

Ironically, Mazda's goal was to create a direct descendant of the original Lotus Elan from the 1960s, with a nostalgic feel in terms of styling, lightweight philosophy and rear-wheel drive setup, adapted of course, to the times.

On the other hand, the British automaker purposely designed a futuristic successor that maintained the handling and nimbleness of the original Elan, but instead of RWD, opted for a FWD layout, the first and last time Lotus tried it on a production model.

Even though the modern Elan was praised for its handling and forward looking styling, it ultimately fell victim to its high price having to compete with the cheaper and more reliable MX-5, and the fact that it was not as entertaining on the road as a rear-wheel driven model.

Kia Wants to Know What it Should Name the K9 Flagship for Overseas Markets

For our 2012 April Fool's Day joke, we hacked in a BMW grille and renamed Kia's new K9 flagship sedan the 9'Series for the North American market. True, our designation cannot be taken seriously, but Kia still needs a model name for the K9 in overseas markets.

The South Korean automaker posted on its Facebook page that it is interested to hear some naming suggestions for the K9 sedan, which was launched in its home market on Wednesday (read more about that here).

New Kia K9 Flagship Sedan Makes its Market Debut in South Korea, Launches with V6 Engines

Kia's most ambitious new model, the K9 flagship sedan that eyes the BMW 7-Series both in style and in size, went on sale in South Korea on Wednesday.

The full-size, rear-wheel drive sedan is currently offered with two V6 engines, while pricing in Korea starts at 52,900,000 won (US$46,900 / €35,500) and rises to 86,400,000 won (US$76,500 / €57,900).

Kia said today that after its introduction in South Korea, the K9 will launch in a number of key overseas markets starting in the fourth quarter of 2012, though the company would not elaborate further. "K9 is our first rear-wheel drive large sedan for more than a decade and sets new standards for advanced design, new technologies and driving performance, representing the 'best of the best' of Kia," commented Soon-Nam Lee, Kia's Director of Overseas Marketing Group.

2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Roars Like a Lion and Cries Like a Baby in New Korean Ads

We know from first hand that each market has its own needs and values when it comes to advertising products, but we can't help but feel that at least a couple of Hyundai's South Korean market ads for the latest generation of the Santa Fe are an awkward throwback to previous decades.

This is most evident in the commercial where Hyundai pictures the Santa Fe in one scene sliding and roaring like a lion and in another displays the interior with a baby's cry heard from the background, supposedly to show that it's tough on the outside and soft in the inside.

Head on past the break to watch all the ads.

Container Turns Hyundai Elantra into a Low Rider

While tornadoes in Dallas were tossing around trucks and containers up in the air as if they were toys, in Busan, which is the second largest city in South Korea after Seoul, strong winds pushed a container on top of a relatively new Hyundai Elantra saloon.

Naturally, since no one was hurt, the story was quickly picked up by Hyundai, which posted one of the pictures shared by the community at Chosun, on its Facebook page.

The photo of the container leaning on the Elantra sedan was accompanied by this caption on the brand's page: "A car that won almost every Car of the Year (COTY) award around the world preventing a container from getting blown away by strong wind."

New Brochure Shots from 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe

Given that the world premiere of the all-new 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe at next month's New York International Auto Show is imminent, it shouldn't come to much of a surprise that the first brochure shots of the crossover model have leaked onto the web, courtesy of The Korean Blog.

While these scans are from the Korean market model, we don't expect any significant styling changes over the Santa Fe that will be sold in other countries around the world.
