High and Dry
Due to her engines stopping at an inopportune moment, 146 ft. long Norumbega was grounded in a narrow channel near Mt. Desert Maine and by lowtide had achieved the precarious position in the bottom picture. She was freed by some clever seamanship. At high tide she was slid off the rocks with a combination of full power astern, all the power of an unnamed tug and finally a large wave created when the captain of the steamboat Moosehead applied full throttle as close to the Norumbega as possible.
